DISCLAIMER:
HYPER AUSTRALIA NOR I ARE TO BLAME IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG
YOU UNDERTAKE THIS TASK AT YOUR OWN RISK
I HAVE TRIED TO BE AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE, BUT IF YOU FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING INCORRECT OR WRONG, LET ME KNOW IMMEDIATLEY
I DID THIS ON MY X3 EXCEL SOHC, I CANNOT ASSURE IT WILL WORK EXACTLY ON THE DOHC AS SOME WIRES MAY BE DIFFERENT FOR THE TACHO WIRE
I CANNOT ASSURE ANYTHING FOR THE LC AND LC2 ACCENTS ALTHOUGH IT MAY BE SIMILAR
BE BLOODY CAREFUL WHEN SOLDERING ESPECIALLY WHEN USING A PENCIL TORCH (which i was, stupidly, doing) PLASTIC SHEATHING AND FOAM GOES UP REALLY QUICKLY
CHECK THE INTEGRITY OF ALL WIRES IN THE VICINITY AFTER SOLDERING AND MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO SMALL FIRES THAT YOU CANT SEE (i had a small one - bloody foam)
hi guys
i plan to make this a bit of a project file as i just recently scored a splitfire tacho gauge of ebay for $30 (second hand)
i plan to hook it up this week
and i will try to take pics as i go
with lots of reading and examining and help from this diagram:
http://www.geocities.com/hyundaixl2000/gxdash.htm
i think i have found a simple(r) way of hooking up a tacho
from the diagram above the standard dash has pins for Ignition, Earth, Illumination and Battery - the only one it doesn't have is the tacho wire
so some after some thinking, im like "why not run the wires for the tacho straight into the ole dash"?
so the plan is to tap into the following pins
20 - IGN (+)
22 - Earth
29 - Illumination
1 - Battery
the tacho wire is pin 6 top row from the righ of the ecu - the top row is 19 pins, the other two are 18 - in my SOHC excel it was an ALL WHITE WIRE, i am unsure about the DOHC and the LC and LC2 accent
the only tricky thing then is actually getting to the tacho wire from the ecu, and pulling the dash off!
UPDATE: after examining my wiring requirements for my tacho, i didnt need the battery wire, but maybe other tachos do
another thing, i think the globe is busted, so im not entirely sure pin 29 for illumination works or not - i will be modifying it from a globe to a LED and will report soon - see last post
Well, after some minutes, i have successfully pulled and reassembled my dash
took me all of 30 minutes to do, and now i know exactly how to do it when i get my gauge!!!
as soon as i get my gauge i will start 'experimenting'[/b]
