I thought varex mufflers are illegal as they can tamper with the sound of your car. But still none the less, a good thing to have on your accent

They should be legal if on their loudest setting they are under the legal dB limit.

most mufflers/cannon's dont meet db requirements let alone emmissions.

Starting the rear disc conversion tommorrow, might mount the bosch 044 and fuel filter whil im under there... seriously thinking about running the fuel lines as well...

Cheers Ryan

yer mate im doing a full DIY, gotta make 4 spacers to space caliper out right... And awaiting disc's so then ill be able to do the full write up.

A bit of bad news though, the rear suspension bushings are completely shagged out, so ill buy the full poly bushing kit tonight and do all of them before the car goes out on the road.

Cheers Rysn

Ok, Been a bit hard lately to do alot with the car with the way my health has been but however pleased to inform you that the rear disc conversion is almost fully done, minus hand brake cables which will be done soon when i pull the interier and fuel tank out. So my DIY will only be as far as the handbrake cables.

I am pulling the fuel tank out as i need the standard fuel line directly out of the tank modified to have a -6an fitting on so i can loop it into my surge tank. My original surge tank will not work and it will also not be legal, So i have a guy down south making one for me under the car. It will be 2ltrs approx. Whilst the tank is out as well i can run all the ful lines up more or less to the motor. Also i will be able to put the new fuel walbro intank pump in as well.

progress is slow with funds all dried up atm, so i am slowly building the motor instead of the box, as the motor need to be ran in and will not have big power ran though so the old box will hold up fine. The major issue is finding .25mm main and rod bearings.

Cheers Ryan

Thats pretty cheap, Good work on finally getting it done, what brand are they? And they are solid non vented ones same as the originals? ........Also just a word of advice when you go for your first brake test do it alone lol, not saying you have done a dodgy job or anything, Its just that when I did mine I almost put poor old Dave through the windscreen hahaha good times

chocolate man, its mah first post here but i love love your work dude! if you haven't already got your pipe work done, i'd reccommend something custom from someone who can actually see the car, and who is accountable for their work. as much as i love kdmstuff, i reckon it'd be asking for trouble if it didn't fit.

also tuned length man, you're spending the cash elsewhere on quality chocolate, don't cop out on a ghetto mani.

Ok all,

another day full of progress,

Walbro gss342 intank fuel pump was put in today, for future refrence if you plan to put one in your accent you need to file out 3mm from the holer to fit it in. also figured out more or less now exactly how to feed the surge tank, and supprisianly with hopefully little cost.

Cheers Ryan

usSorted out my setup for the fuel reg, It will be mounted on the drivers side strut tower, directly inline with the fuel rail (works out beautifully). Also brought a couple of brass adaptors for the reg to mount the gauge so for easy tuning readability.

Contemplating weather or not to remove the factor sound deadoning for reduced weight however as the car will be a daily not sure about noise (however the car has a 3" turbo back exhaust and screamer pipe).

Speaking of exhaust's for when we go for track days, I am having a side pipe made up :P will remove the rest of the system for the day :)

Within the next week the I will do another wreckers run as I need another drivers side seat rail for mounting my racing seat. The harness im getting will be a 5 point camlock so i need it all ready to be mod plated. (Rear disc conversion, Race seat, Fuel system, Harness).

Got new carpet for boot and interior, new boot lining, black instrument cluster from the wreckers a week ago so the white dial dash will be up for grabs soon.

Sending the head to be pressure tested, cleaned, ported, CC matched, new guides, seats, valves ground, decked and have the holes for the head studs changed this week at Jack bro's.

Cheers Ryan

Okie dokie, maybe someone here may be able to help, I am still having major issues finding main and rod bearings, until now...

ACL Duraglide have a listing for the G4EC motor - 1.5L Accent motor...

The worrying issue is:

Rod width
Rod journal size
rod bearing outside size

Main width
main journal size
main bearing outside size
position of thrust bearing - should be centre...

However i am fairly sure that the crank sizes for both the G4EC and G4ED are the same (fingers crossed)

If anyone can help please please please post here. Especially if you have a 1.5 lying around and able to pull it apart :)

Cheers Ryan

howdy all,

Ok dropped the head into jack brothers yesterday, this is whats getting done:

Chemical clean
De-assembled
Pressure tested
Mild to Medium Porting
Relieved around lifter bores for 12mm deep series socket for head stud conversion
New seats
Guides
Decked
Valves ground and seated
Full assemble

Because I used to work and left due to a lack of work at the time, there giving me an extreamly good deal, (should be less than $1200)

Then once I get the head back or between & now and then I have to order the ARP Head & Main studs, Rod bearings, Main bearings and have the crank double nitrided and ground. As for the cam's after a bit of research and the cams being measured, we found that the stock N/A cams are quite good to be turbo'd with in the accent. Not completly sure if I will use the cams out of this new motor or the ones out of the car now. Im not 100% sure either what I will do with cam bolts this time either, I could use unbrako bolts, new stockers or try and get ARP ones... I havn't had a problem with stock ones yet so thats what im thinking of doing...

As for the block:

Caustic soda bath
Steamed clean
Bored
Honed
Decked
De-burred
Pistons fitted to rods
Rod bearings honed

Im not going to lighten the crankshaft either as I want to keep street driveability and strength into the bottom end. I will however get it balanced.

Still working on the Fuel system and brakes, I have a custom surge tank being made up to suit under the car so as to keep it all legal :)

Now as for mod plating everything that will be done now...

Fuel System
Rear Disc Conversion
Bucket Seat
5 Point Harness

Will post some piccy's when its not raining :|

Cheers Ryan

I think i already said this before but the 1.5 is 83.5mm stroke (with 75.5mm pistons) and the 1.6 is 87.5mm stroke (with 76.5mm pistons). Both should work, but obviously with different swept capacities however.
